LTK Skills For Life programme is designed to enhance the students experience as a member of LTK.
The programme will help the student work towards their next grading whilst developing essential skills connecting them to the club, school and home life. Showing the student that everything that can be learned in the dojo can be applied to other areas to help them achieve any goals they want to work hard for.
Mini Sensei (pictured left-he may look familiar!!) is there to help the student along the way.
As the student works their way through the pack merit stickers can be collected to show progress and award students for their achievements.
Each student receives a skills for life pack relevant to their next colour belt grade in karate, which is packed full of information to help them work towards the next level. In each pack there are sheets which include a Syllabus, Action Words, School Achievement Record and Home Achievement Record. Each will be explained below so you can help your child work towards the next level.
As you can see the Skills For Life programme will benefit the student on many levels and keep them focused and motivated to progress in their karate and link these valuable skills to life outside of the dojo. We are excited to see how this programme will develop and are open to any suggestions to improve it and keep it relevant and current to the students. I hope you will get behind this and help the LTK students develop not only karate skills but valuable Skills For Life.
This sheet explains to the student what karate skills to practise at home, which are relevant for their next grading. It also tells the student what merit sticker they can collect when they show a particular technique to Sensei for his approval. there is a question on this sheet that needs to be answered, with lots of information available on our Online Dojo page of our website.
Each colour belt has 2 Action Words (e.g. Confidence & Determination) that the student will learn and hopefully implement into their training, home and school life. Each action word is explained with relevant examples to help the student see the links and relevance to their training, home and school life.
The Skills For Life programme shows the student how to link the action words and training in the dojo to the students school life. This sheet allows the student to record anything they may have achieved at school and rewards them for the achievement. This can include anything from doing well at a test, representing the school in a sport, to reading well. They record them and can receive a merit sticker if they complete the record. The students examples should be related to the Action Words they have learned about, but is not a necessity.
On the back page of the pack is where there will be general information that will be of interest to the student depending on the colour of belt. From contact information, LTK History,
Again the Skills For Life programme shows the student how to link the action words and training in the dojo to the students home life. This sheet allows the student to record anything they may have done at home and again rewards them for the achievement. This can include anything from keeping their room clean, helping around the house, to any offer of help to their family or local community. The students examples should be related to the Action Words they have learned about, but is not a necessity.
All students progress through a grading system relevant to their class. Along with a continual assessment various criteria have to be met in order for the student to be eligible to grade to the next level. This sheet gives information on the gradings and when they take place at LTK.
